Epic Fail: Mauna Kea Knit Together

Remember a few weeks ago when I gushed enthusiastically about the Mauna Kea knit-together, and promised updates, and then never mentioned it again?

Sigh.

Things were going well. I finished the collar and moved swiftly on to the raglan increases.

Increase, increase, increase, increase . . . and then, I was done! The raglan increases, that is.

Only, I wasn't.

I had the right number of stitches for the sleeves, but the front and back were missing 13 stitches. EACH. That's not even an even number, how did I manage that?

If you find yourself missing a few stitches after (supposedly) completing your raglan shaping, you can fudge it--just work a few extra rounds and add them in, no problem. But 26 missing stitches is far too much to overcome--it means the sweater isn't nearly as wide as it should be at that point.

So that was that.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.

Mauna Kea is in time out. And will stay there for the foreseeable future, as I have a design deadline and a toddler Christmas sweater to finish.

Don't miss out on the fun, though--search for hashtag MaunaKeaWithMel on Twitter and Instagram to see pictures from people whose sweaters are much better behaved.

And speaking of fun--tomorrow I'm starting a (hopefully) fun December promotion, Twelve Days of Christmas Deals! Each day for 12 days I'll be offering a special deal for one of my self-published patterns. And just to mix things up, I'll be sharing the coupon codes in different places--like a scavenger hunt! So keep an eye on the blog, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the MediaPeruana Designs Ravelry group!
