Be the Change. Sé el cambio.

I originally wrote a long post about my thoughts on the election.

I've decided against sharing it because a) if you've been paying attention, you probably already know my thoughts and b) I want to do something more positive and productive.

This country is deeply divided, and the anti-immigrant, anti-Latino rhetoric that marked Donald Trump's campaign are particularly painful to me. To my friends and family. My husband is an immigrant. I met him at a job where 90% of the people I worked with were immigrants from Latin America. My husband is Peruvian; my children are Latino.

People who come to this country in search of work, to escape violence, to escape persecution, or for any other reason are not the enemy. People with a different skin color, a different religion, who speak a different language are not the enemy. I don't know who decided they were, but that person is simply wrong.

But how can I help people understand this? How can I help people find common ground?

Well, I'm not sure. But maybe like this.

Found a pattern you love that's written in Spanish and need help working through it? Email me. I will help you.

Hablas español y te interesa un patrón que solo está disponible en ingles? Mándame un email, yo te ayudo.

Are you a designer or indie dyer who wants to reach out to Spanish speakers? Email me. I will help you translate emails, marketing materials, your website, yarn labels, anything.

Eres una diseñadora y necesitas ayuda en traducir patrones al ingles? Mándame un email, yo te ayudo.

I have nearly 10 years of translating experience, and am a member of the American Translators Association and National Capital Area Translators Association. And for the rest of this year, I will translate anything knitting, yarn or fiber-related from Spanish to English or vice versa, free of charge. Gratis.

Please share this with anyone you know who might like to take advantage of it.
