Pattern Debut: Abeja shawl

Spring is shawl season for me--how about you? If you are all about shawls this time of year, I've got the perfect new pattern for you.

The Abeja shawl was inspired by my very first design, the Dungarees cowl. I've transformed the original pattern's knot stitch and lateral braids into a top-down triangle shawl that combines eyelets and texture with lofty single-ply yarn for an airy spring accessory.

What you'll love most is how easy the stitches are to memorize--knit a few rows and you'll be able to take your project on the go and knit the whole section before you have to consult the pattern again. The stitch patterns are both charted and written out.

Not sure about lateral braids? That's why I published that new tutorial a couple weeks ago! They're actually very simple and once you get the hang of them, you'll want to add them to everything. 000000000000000

Designed for fingering weight yarn, any sock yarn in your stash will surely make a beautiful shawl, but it really shines in a light-as-air single ply yarn. The yellow shawl is worked in Lakes Yarn and Fiber Silk Single fingering, a merino/silk blend with gorgeous sheen. The green uses Skeinny Dipping Merino Single, super soft and fantastic drape. I would also recommend Shalimar Yarns Aerie, Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal or Chroma fingering, or Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles. Because single ply yarns sometimes have more yardage per skein than plied sock yarns, the pattern includes 2 sizes--no yarn goes to waste!
