Event: Metro Yarn Crawl
If you're anywhere near the D.C. area during the next couple of weeks, you're going to want to check out the Metro Yarn Crawl. Running June 5-14, this event includes special discounts and events at 11 yarn shops around the D.C. metro area!
First, grab your special Yarn Crawl tote from one of the participating shops--it costs $15 and entitles you to 20% off full-priced yarn, fiber and patterns at every shop during the Crawl.
Then, start crawling! Each shop is giving away a grand prize at the end of the crawl and to be entered, you need to get your special Yarn Crawl passport stamped at at least 8 shops. What can you win? The full list of prizes is here; it includes, for example, 6 skeins of Mrs. Crosby Hat Box from Knit Locally and 5 skeins of Shalimar Yarns Equus from Second Story Knits!
I've can personally vouch for 5 of the participating shops: Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA; Second Story Knits in Bethesda, MD; The Knot House in Frederick, MD; The Yarn Spot in Silver Spring, MD; and Looped Yarn Works in Washington, D.C. They're all awesome!
But if you have to narrow it down, my two favorites are Fibre Space and The Knot House.
Fibre Space might be a local shop, but pretty much everyone's heard of it. They're always hosting trunk shows from awesome indie dyers and offering classes with amazing teachers and designers. Plus, they have a great mix of staple and indie yarns, and are located in Old Town Alexandria, a great place to shop and eat.
The Knot House in Frederick is relatively new, but they know what they're doing. Their selection of indie yarns is fabulous--they've got Duck Duck Wool, Magpie Fibers, North Bound Knitting, Shalimar Yarns, Western Sky Knits and other talented dyers I've never found anywhere else. Plus historic downtown Frederick is great for people watching and, again, eating.
I am still yarn dieting (and even if I weren't, after Sheep and Wool, I need to give my wallet a rest), so I should really stay far, far away from this event. But I may need to do a little window shopping, if I'm in the neighborhood ...
So do me a favor and do a little yarn shopping for me. Support these great stores and fill your stash bins at a discount!
