Holla Knits Blog Tour: Close Up on Annapolis--and a Chance to Win!
Hello Holla Knits readers! I'm so happy to have you visiting my blog today and excited to share more about my contribution to the summer issue, Annapolis.
Summers in Maryland are muggy, and they last from May through September, which is a long time to be saying "It's not the heat, it's the humidity." Even in the hottest summers, though, when you're near the water--be it the Chesapeake Bay or the Atlantic Ocean--you'll get refreshing breezes and cool marine air that make a light pullover like Annapolis essential. So when I couldn't find the perfect airy cotton pullover to wear for such occasions, I decided to just make one myself.
Annapolis is worked in all-over knot stitch, an easy to memorize pattern that looks far more complicated than it is. Combine it with a sport weight cotton knit at a loose gauge and you get airy, breathable, not-quite-lace. I knit the cream-colored sample in Knit Picks Shine Sport, a surprisingly soft cotton/modal blend.
The body of the sweater is knit in the round, with subtle waist shaping created by changing gauge. Set-in 3/4 length sleeves provide some needed structure in an otherwise loose top, and the collar is finished with a few simple rows of garter stitch. The pattern includes 5 sizes, with finished bust circumferences of 33.5, 38.5, 42, 46.5, and 50.5 inches.
