Pattern Debut: Plum Pudding
It's March! Finally. The worst months of the year are OVER! Let's do something special to celebrate--maybe a new pattern??
If you like the Pumpkin Butter socks, you'll love this one: Plum Pudding Mittens!
These mittens use the same stranded colorwork diamond pattern, but are knit in sport weight yarn. The heavier yarn creates a thick, warm outer layer (we still have at least 3 more weeks of winter, afterall! And things are just starting to get chilly in the southern hemisphere!) and knits up quickly. The thumbs are worked in a simple alternating pattern, creating a checkerboard look.
The pattern includes 2 sizes (small/medium, 7.5" hand circumference and medium/large 8" hand circumference) and calls for Cascade Yarns Longwood Sport, a delightfully soft superwash merino that comes in a beautiful array of colors. You need just 1 skein of each color to knit either size.
This pattern is a great opportunity to play with color! Use 2 solid colors, a solid and a variegated, or a solid and a self-striping. Make matching mittens, or reverse your main and contrast colors on the second mitten to create the positive/negative effect shown in the sample.
(You know what's hard? Photographing your own hands. Even with a remote. I think I need to look into hiring a model!)
The Plum Pudding Mittens and Pumpkin Butter socks will be permanently priced at buy 1, get 1 50% off--that means you'll get both patterns for $8.25, no coupon code needed, forever. But for 1 week only, I will give you a FREE copy of Pumpkin Butter when you purchase Plum Pudding!
