Pattern Debut: Tumbao

Tumbao knitting pattern by Kristen Jancuk, MediaPeruana Designs

Welcome 2016! Let's kick things off with a brand new pattern!

Tumbao is a stripey accessory for weather of all sorts--the pattern includes instructions for both a light, airy infinity scarf and a cozy warm cowl!

It utilizes stitches that pull the colors up and down to create gentle waves as you transition between stripes, and it's finished off with eyelet trim, top and bottom.

The scarf is especially versatile: wear it in one long loop, double it up, tie it around or loop it over your head for extra warmth.

The cowl is the perfect project for scrap yarn! You need just 30 yards of each color, and it's easily finished in a couple of hours.

Both pieces are easy to customize--use as many or as few colors as you want. Use a gradient set, coordinated colors or random leftovers.

The infinity scarf shown was knit using a mini skein gradient set from the fabulous Space Cadet Yarn.  The base is Celeste, a superwash merino that's a light fingering weight. The sample cowl was knit with scrap yarn! My scraps included Madelinetosh Tosh Vintage, Forbidden Woolery Temperance (actually a DK weight!), Dream in Color Classy and Miss Babs Yowza Whatta Skein!
