2016 Sock Spectacular Update

You might remember that earlier this year I challenged you to join me in trying to finish 16 socks this year. The Sock Spectacular contest is going strong--all you have to do to participate is post your sock WIPs and FOs on Instagram with the hashtag #sockspectacular2016 and you're eligible to win YARN! I'm giving a skein of sock yarn away every month.

But how am I doing on Sock Spectacular? Well . . .

I could be doing better.

To date, I have finished just 1 sock:

But I have been making slow progress on a bunch of other sock WIPs, and started some fun new socks where I tried out the OMG heel for the first time:

So all is not lost. I'm planning lots of socks for the summer after Charm City Knits is complete.

And what about my promise not to buy any sock yarn in 2016? Going strong! It's hard--I'm not going to lie. Indie dyers like Nomadic Yarns and Sunrise Fiber Co are constantly posting beautiful new colorways on Instagram that I would love to add to my collection, but given the lousy progress I'm making on Sock Spectacular, it's clear that I don't need them.

Of course, Maryland Sheep and Wool is coming up--can I maintain my resolve?? Those show-exclusive colorways always get me.

Are you making progress on your socks this year? Don't forget to share on Instagram with the hashtag #sockspectacular2016 !
